Sketching Expo 2020 Dubai – Tomás Reis (Urban Sketcher)

In an exhibition marked by the sharing of experiences, Tomás Reis will illustrate the visitor experience, on Portugal National Day - January 14th, 2022. The sketchbook will illustrate a sensory journey through the exhibition and the city of Dubai, as a meeting point between East and West. The practice of observational drawing raises awareness of our surroundings and creates new forms of communication, in the definition of a sustainable future.

ABOUT TOMÁS REIS
Trained as an architect, Tomás Reis takes his drawings beyond sketchbook pages. From ceramic pieces from Bordallo Pinheiro to his opinion essays on newspapers, such as Público and Observador, drawing becomes a way of thinking. He writes about the relation between drawing and space production, heritage and identity, as well as the way spaces influence our emotions. He takes drawing sketchbooks while travelling, to revive his memories and share stories. Being aware that drawing shapes cities brought him to the Master Thesis about Urbanism. His commitment with human, social development, is the only reason why he proposed a memorial concept for the port of Beirut, Lebanon, in September 2020. Today, he shares his time between international projects, street art interventions and promoting drawing for recreational, educational purposes, workshops and exhibitions. In Lisbon, he created workshops in MAAT museum, Castelo de São Jorge, the palace and library in Ajuda - apart from being an active member of the Urban Sketchers community.
