As the nation’s contemporary designers turn to the craft and reinterpret it for a new audience, this most delicate of fabrics is finding a place in the modern world. - Embroidered sweaters from Póvoa de Varzim | Artisan: Maria da Luz Ferreira
These sweaters were typically embroidered by retired fishermen from Póvoa de Varzim, a town in northern Portugal, who told their stories in stitches. Mothers, wives and brides of fishermen then continued embroidering the sweaters throughout the decades.
