Attending the Official Ceremony at Al Wasl Plaza was Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai, and Sultan Al Shamsi, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, who welcomed the Portuguese Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Francisco André.

Portugal brought the unique tradition of Fado and the Portuguese guitar to Expo’s global stage, with a special performance by Teresa Salgueiro, alongside guitar players António Chainho and Marta Pereira da Costa. The ceremony was followed by official visits to the Portugal and UAE Pavilions, and a festive evening full of Portuguese sounds and rhythms with the exclusive show ‘Al Qantara’ – meaning ‘bridge’ in Arabic.
